This presentation will provide an analysis of recently published data on canine detection capabilities at State & Local Police Agencies and Sheriff Offices in the United States, to include the number of canines, number of handlers, and their detection disciplines. This presentation will discuss concepts and questions for future surveys that can help build a better understanding of the landscape of law enforcement canine detection capabilities, resources, needs, and priorities. All information is based on data collected by the Law Enforcement Management and Administrative Statistics (LEMAS) 2020 survey conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
