MRIGlobal challenged the Griffin G510 portable GC/MS system from FLIR with CWA materials. 23 of the 24 test chemicals were successfully detected at ng levels and those not in NIST added to the on-board library. The G510 allows for chemical-specific alarms to be programed into an automated search function. The software performs real-time searching during and after an analytical run and if any of the programmed chemicals are found, an audible and visible user warning is generated. The G510 unit will detect and identify a wide variety of chemical agents and other threat materials. The use of the DB-5MS column is particularly important to allow for the detection of Novichok agents, as other similar columns will retain the compounds more readily and not allow them to pass through to the detector.
