This study was performed to first determine if postmortem root banding could be found on a variety of animals, domestic and wildlife. Secondly, to use the data obtained to apply towards wildlife trafficking crimes and prosecution. The samples used in this study were delivered by a colleague; the time between death and collection of hair was unknown, as well as how long hairs were stored for since collection. Most hairs collected appeared to be cut rather than pulled, making PMRB ineligible to find. Results conclude that although these samples were not ideal, the possibility of animal hair analysis for PMRB can still be supporting evidence for wildlife trafficking cases.
