It is an often-repeated mantra and observed phenomenon that the handler can significantly impact the performance of the canine. How does this happen? What can we try to do about it as canine team trainers? In traditional operational Canine Team Training, much of the training time is consumed by training the dogs behaviour, this often leaves little time for training the handler and the team. Operational employment of a K9 team fundamentally is about decision making of the handler, conditioning of the dog and operationally relevant skill sets of the team. The key to complex and difficult situations is mastery of fundamental skills. Brad will discuss techniques to assess what the operational outcomes and objectives are and how to establish a training program that develops not only the dog, but the handler and the team. So what?
